The Mysterious Earworm

It’s 2.30am Tuesday, and I’ve just hit the sack when this tune comes into my head and refuses to go away.

1. I know there’s “I love you” in the lyrics, but that’s completely useless as there are a gadzillion other songs with this phrase in the lyric…
2. The image of Snuffaluffagus pops into my head, and I get out of bed to search for any songs he has ever sung. No luck either.
3. I begin to try and hum the tune to see if more words come to me…
4. I google “doo i love you”

Voila! It wasn’t Snuffy; It was the closing titles from The Elephant Show from the 80’s. It goes like this (I’m a little embarrassed!)

Skidamarink a dinky dink,
Skidamarinky doo,
I – love – you!
Skidamarink a dinky dink,
Skidamarinky doo,
I – love – you!

I love you in the morning
and in the afternoon,
I love you in the evening
and underneath the moon;

Oh, Skidamarink a dinky dink,
Skidamarinky doo,
I – LOVE – YOU!

There are actions to the song too and wifey had a great big laugh watching me show her…

Mystery solved and off to bed for me… wondering why this came back to me after over more than 25 years…

Oh wow! According to Wikipedia, this song is 100 years old!
